During the winter, it benefited from the arrival of Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben who implemented a new training regimen which transformed the men in the ranks from inexperienced amateurs into disciplined soldiers capable of standing up against the British. When Washingtons men departed in June 1778, they were an improved army from the one that had arrived months earlier. A Difficult Autumn In the fall of 1777, Washingtons army moved south from New Jersey to defend the capital of Philadelphia from the advancing forces of General William Howe. Clashing at Brandywine on September 11, Washington was decisively defeated, leading the Continental Congress to flee the city. Fifteen days later, after outmaneuvering Washington, Howe entered Philadelphia unopposed. Supplies Though far from ideal, the conditions of the encampment were generally on par with the Continental soldiers routine privations. During the early months of the encampment, supplies and provisions were scarce, but available. Soldiers made due with subsistence meals such as firecake, a mixture of water and flour. This would sometimes be supplemented by pepper pot soup, a stew of beef tripe and vegetables.   The situation improved in February following a visit to the camp by members of Congress and successful lobbying by Washington. While a lack of clothing caused suffering among some the men, many were fully uniformed with the best equipped units used for foraging and patrols. Hickman To supplement those supplies received from Congress, Washington sent Brigadier General Anthony Wayne to New Jersey in February 1778, to gather food and cattle for the men. A month later, Wayne returned with 50 head of cattle and 30 horses. With the arrival of warmer weather in March, disease began strike at the army. Over the next three months, influenza, typhus, typhoid, and dysentery all erupted within the encampment. Of the 2,000 men who died at Valley Forge, over two-thirds were killed by disease. These outbreaks were eventually contained through sanitation regulations, inoculations, and the work of surgeons. Drilling with von Steuben: On February 23, 1778, Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben arrived in the camp. A former member of the Prussian General Staff, von Steuben had been recruited to the American cause in Paris by Benjamin Franklin. Accepted by Washington, von Steuben was put to work designing a training program for the army. He was aided in this task by Major General Nathanael Greene and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hamilton. Though he spoke no English, von Steuben commenced his program in March with the aid of interpreters. How Fight The War On Poverty And Turn These Unwanted...

With the population on the rise and the economy struggling to survive, we need to start looking for alternatives for population control that will not only save money, but with time show to be profitable. According to the National Institute on Aging, thanks to advances in medicine, the life expectancy of Americans 65 and older has nearly doubled during the 20th century and is expected to double again within the next 25 years. Unplanned pregnancies are also another issue affecting our population that is causing burdens on the healthcare system. Unplanned pregnancies not only a burden the healthcare system, but also on the parents of the unborn. In many instances the expecting parents are mere children themselves and in other situations they are living in the poverty level and cannot afford to support the child. In those instances the government has to take on the burden of bringing up the children. We will discuss a plan on how fight the war on poverty and turn these unwanted pregnancy into a financial blessing. Along with a better ways to handle the costs of taking care of the elderly. First we need to address what is deemed an unwanted pregnancy and when is it necessary to do so. In some instances, some will find that they do not want their pregnancy as soon as a positive test result comes back. In other cases, it may not occur till later in the pregnancy. Unlike Buddhism, Christianity believes that after death is not reincarnation; just be judged by God to go to heaven or hell. Death is the end, so they will not come back to life. People who die can be human again, if they do five rules: not killing anything that has life, not drinking alcohol, not stealing, not lying, and not having sex with another people who is not their wife or husband. If they break one of the five rules, they can be an animal or go to hell. If they do more than that five rules, which is the Eightfold Path such as: control their thought, practice mediation, say nothing to hurt others, know the truth, resist evil, free their mind of evil, work for the good of others, respect life, they can go to empyrean, which like heaven or even be a Buddha in Nirvana. It just depends on the country’s law that allows it or not. On the other hand, Christianity’s ethics do not protect human rights in marriage. They don’t protect the human rights in marriage because marriage in Christianity is demanding and conservative. Christianity has several rules for married people. Christians believe that God created each person, so marriage must relate with God, the religion. Christians would like to marry a person who is the same religion, or if that person is not the same religion, that person must be a Christian to get married. Moreover, Christians just can marry one time in their whole life with the witness of God. For example, if they marry a man or a woman but that person is bad, they can’t divorce with him or her. Christianity also doesn’t allow same sex marriage. Christianity says that same sex marriage is against Bible and against God. Christians believe it is not right if gays or lesbians get married. If they get married, they will go to hell even they are a good people, because they are not pure to see God. The second way that they practice differently is their rituals. Buddhist rituals are different in the way they are structured. Buddhists always read the Buddhist scriptures in the morning and at night. They can pray for themselves and other people have a good day with retreats in the morning. And at night they pray to avoid the devil and the things they have done in that day. They also go to temple during the full moon day to bless for a quiet life. Because they don’t kill animals on the full moon days, people don’t have sins in those days, so that they are pure to pray with Buddha. On full moon days, Buddhists are fasting which do not eat meat, just eat vegetable. Because they believe that everything have souls, so animals have souls too. They also believe that animal is reincarnated human, so they don’t eat our fellow. They think that animals are human, so it not right to kill them. Buddha said, â€Å"Every single life around this universal is equal. † As a result, it not right to kill other, even Buddha himself. For example, a mother lied to her son and promised that if she had told a lie she would have been a dog. After she died, she became a dog and came back to her son’s house to protect her son’s family. She was coming back to her son’s best friend dream, and she told him the story and hoped he could give her a salvation. Then the friend went to the son’s house and told her son that he wanted to eat dog meat. Then her son killed the dog, which was his mother; even he didn’t want to do that. After that, his best friend told him about the story. Therefore, if they kill an animal, they have already killed a human. That is why Buddha encourages people fasting as much as they can, and then they may go to Nirvana. Furthermore, Buddhists don’t pray before they eat something. They are thankful for the food and the chef, who made the food for them. Unlike Buddhist rituals, Christian rituals are different in the way they are unstructured. Christians don’t set time to read the Bible. They can read whenever they want, or when they doing something wrong and want to baptize and to repent with God. Christians always go to church in the Sunday morning. When there they can pray and repent for the previous week and implore for the next week, and they want God to forgive what they have done. Some Christians aren’t fasting and some are fasting two days a month but they can eat seafood such as: fish, shrimp, and crab. People like to eat meat more than seafood with fishy smell, so Christians are allowed to eat seafood. Christians don’t eat meat (warm-blooded animal) because they want to sacrifice, penance, repent and empathize with the Passion of the Christ. It shows respect to God and shows that they want to go to heaven. They also think that beef and pork are more sexual stimulant than fish, shrimp, and crab (cold-blooded fish). So they eat seafood to do penance for themselves. Furthermore, they also pray before eating something. Christians thank God to give them food. King Lear - Evil In the King Lear play, Shakespeare creates many conditions in which humans live in the world. The main characters in the play are used to portray Shakespeare's ideas. One of these ideas which Shakespeare is trying to portray is evil between the characters and in the world which are emphasized throughout the play. The evil, created by humans, is outweighed by good in the world of King Lear. Evil was created by humans who decided to do wrong to others. Duke of Albany, said that all evil people will be justly punished (ACT V, iii, 303). Albany indicated that it is the people who caused evil and people decided to do evil, not gods. Lear believes that since Edgar is out on the heath he must have given everything to his daughters as well (ACT III, iv, 62ff). Since he believes that Edgar gave everything to evil Lear must believe that people are the cause of evil. It were Lear's daughters who decided to do wrong to Lear and it was Lear's fault in giving away all of his land. Even though evil was created by humans good will always exist. After King Lear was captured he showed that even if evil exists, good will always be present. Lear speaks about love with Cordelia in the prison cell and how they will still have each other despite of the evil around them (ACT V, iii, 8). On another occasion Lear also says that despite all the evil in the world the raw nature, which is good, is still unharmed (ACT IV, iv, 90-92). Lear discovers nature's beauty by playing with the mice and listening to the signing birds. While all the evil is at its peak and everything seems to be lost, the raw nature in the play is unharmed. The good exists even while the evil dominates the world. Good will not only exist if evil dominates, good will also outweigh evil eventually. The war which was lost by Cordelia and Lear, the good side, showed evil win (ACT V, ii). However, good over powered it after the war by Duke of Albany. The good in the play first was diminished to almost nothing but in the end more good was able to defeat evil in the play. When the two sisters began fighting between each other evil began fighting against evil (ACT V, i and iii). Eventually, because of that fighting between evil, good was able to over power evil. When the evil seemed strong and good almost non-existent, evil managed to fight itself and give good a chance to get stronger. At the end of the play evil was completely defeated and good once again dominated the world in the play. Although evil will always be present and people will be the reason why it exists, good will always outweigh evil. Through the characters, Shakespeare is able to portray how evil and man compose in the world. The evil will always exist but good will always win and dominate in the world of King Lear.

My first exercise is Messa Di Voce. This exercise involves a gradual crescendo and decrescendo on one single note that can be used on a variety of instruments but is most commonly known for voice. This can be a hard piece to master, as the singer must only change in volume, not pitch or timbre. Yet this exercise helps my pieces as it creates more natural dynamics in the voice. I have also made the exercise to suit my piece â€Å"I’m beginning to see the light† (Ella Fitzgerald) by making the exercise in the same key, Eb. My second exercise is a standard exercise from Bob Tasman Smith’s Vocalises, known as ‘Trilling’. This exercise involves the fluctuation of the larynx by varying a pitch of a semitone in width, similar to a bird’s call. This can be a difficult exercise to master, as the tempo is very important. A way to overcome this is to start at a slow rate and become faster as you get more comfortable with the rhythm. Yet with difficulty comes more skills; this exercise focuses on the skill of agility and control. These two skills are helpful with my pieces for performance. My third exercise is an â€Å"Ah† sound exercise. It is classed as a back vowel as the tongue tends to be long and the mouth is large and open. When parents get emotionally involved things usually start going down hill and kids tend to lose their interest. The two most visible types of parents in youth sport are excitable and fanatical. Excitable parents are usually supportive, but they tend to get caught up in the moment. They have good intensions, but at the end of the day they probably create more bad then good. Excitable parents can be embarrassing and the children of excitable parents usually do not want their parents involved in competition, or practices. Fanatical parents put a lot of pressure on their kids and are constantly creating scenes with officials and coaches. The kids of these parents do not show a lot of excitement towards games and practices, and chances are they will drop out of sports completely. Fanatical parents are way too focused on winning and losing. The fanatical parents are the parents who are living through their children and who push them way too much on a consistent basis. These parents do not recognize the ability levels of their kids and they believe their kid will become the next superstar athlete. Parent orientation meeting are becoming more popular in youth sports. I believe they are a great way to start off the season. The meetings are planned to create a connection between the coach and the parents. The meeting helps everyone get on the same page, and it gives the coach a chance to lay down the laws and it give parents a chance to answer questions. Coaches will get a chance to introduce themselves and explain their philosophy. Safety procedures, schedules, parent responsibilities and league rules can be explained. Playing time and disciplinary actions will also be covered. I believe if parents let coaches coach, ref’s ref and kids play everything will be alright. At the end of the day everyone just wants to have fun, and the youth sport experience can be improved when everyone is supportive of one another. Winning should never be the priority when it comes to youth sports. Of course winning is fun, but at the end of the day it is not the most important thing in the world. If parents let their kids make the decisions about when, where and why they want to play sports then everything will be alright, but if parents get too involved things will go down hill and youth participation levels will follow.

Dhanpat Rai Shrivastava was born on July 31, 1880 in the small village of Lamahi, located near the city of Banaras in India. Although born into the Hindu Kaystha caste, made up of professionals including writers, doctors and lawyers, his family was poor. His father was a low paid postal employee. His mother died when he was only eight years old. His father remarried, but Dhanpat Rai did not like his stepmother. He studied Urdu and Persian, languages used in literature and administration in 19th century North India at a nearby school. He recalles his childhood fondly in one of his stories, so it is fairly safe to assume that he was a happy and well cared for child. Dhanpat Rai was married at the early age of fifteen. This marriage did not last long, possibly because he was rushed into the marriage by his father. He later remarried a balavidhava, or childhood widow named Shivrani Devi. This marriage was a happy one, and they had several children together. She was said to be very supportive of him throughout their lives together. Dhanpat Rai graduated from school at the age of eighteen and began to teach around the countryside. He taught for a few years in various North Indian towns while earning a college degree.
